Explanation of Accreditation
The Office of Greek Life believes that our Greek organizations have opportunities to advance their organization as well as the overall Greek community through continuously improving their chapter. The accreditation process is designed to examine our Greek Organization in seven key areas that lead to success (Academic Achievement, Chapter Operations and Management, Membership Education and Development, Recruitment and Sustainability, Philanthropy and Community Service, Stakeholder Relationships, and Risk Management) in the Greek Community.
Accredited – The Office of Greek Life has evaluated the organization based on the seven areas. The organization has met the overall standards in the seven key areas as expected by the Office of Greek Life. The organization has several policies in place and alumni support in order to ensure that the organization is successful on a year to year basis.
Provisionally Accredited – The Office of Greek Life has evaluated the organization based on seven key areas. The organization has partially met the standards of expectations of the Office of Greek Life. The organization will be placed on an improvement plan by the Office of Greek Life in an effort to achieve the expected standards of a Greek Organization.
Not Accredited – The Office of Greek Life has evaluated the organization based on seven key areas. The organization has not met the standards of expectations of the Office of Greek Life. The organization will be placed on an improvement plan by the office of Greek Life in an effort to achieve the expected standards of a Greek Organization. The organization may have certain privileges restricted until the satisfactory completion of the improvement plan. (It is to be noted that often when an organization is not accredited, it is due to failure of documentation in the seven key areas in which the office evaluates)
Area of Distinction – Greek organization has met the expected standard and exceeded the expectation by demonstrating that they go above and beyond in this key area.
Area of Distinction: Academic Achievement – Greek organization has an academic plan in place that helps to ensure individual member educational success. Organization also achieved above a 3.0 GPA as a chapter.
Area of Distinction: Chapter Operations and Management – Greek Organization is in good standing with the institution, its national headquarters, and governing Greek Council. The chapter has provided outstanding documentation of the required materials asked of them. The documentation that was provided thoroughly shows how the chapter functions at a high level.
Area of Distinction: New Membership Education and Development – Greek organization has a thorough plan in place that not only educates members in how to be a successful Greek member but also has an extensive plan to develop members into great student leaders. Greek organization has an annual retreat available to all members that assist in the development of its members.
Area of Distinction: Recruitment and Sustainability – Greek organization has a recruitment system in place that allows them to recruit high quality members and initiate at least 75% of the members who they recruit. Greek organization sustains an extremely high percentage of its members on a year to year basis.
Area of Distinction: Philanthropy and Community Service – Greek organization works extensively in the community and fundraises annually for their national philanthropy. Organization requires at least 50% of its members to be involved in hands on community service events as well as sponsors events that raise thousands of dollars to go towards a national cause.
Area of Distinction: Stakeholder Relationships – Greek organization has an extremely strong support system of alumni that are local and non-local. There is a strong and extremely effective line of communication between the chapter and alumni representatives consistently throughout the academic year.
Area of Distinction: Risk Management – Greek organizations thoroughly educates members on risk management and how to make responsible decisions. Greek organization also has very thorough emergency response plans to assist in case of unforeseen issues.
