Welcome to Southeast Fraternity & Sorority Life!

Southeast Missouri State University has enjoyed a long and rich relationship with its collegiate Greek letter social organizations (fraternities and sororities).  The University supports these organizations' efforts to affect student development in positive and lasting ways.  As an important component of Southeast's co-curricular program for undergraduate students, Greek letter chapters further support the mission of the University by providing an enriched out-of-class living and learning experience.  Greek organizations have existed at Southeast since 1952 and are characterized by a tradition of involvement and leadership in campus life.

Currently, the University recognizes 11 fraternities, 7 sororities and three governing councils.  Each fraternity and sorority chapter is unique in personality and membership, while promoting the common ideals and values of personal development, scholarship, leadership, community service, philanthropy, self-governance, individual and group initiative and accountability, formation of community, respect for fellow human beings and those that are different from ourselves, and an array of interpersonal and social skills.  Each year, Greek students dedicate themselves to these ideals.

Southeast's Greek system prides itself on preparing students to be leaders through college and beyond.  Greek alumni from campuses across the U.S. have gone on to make impressive contributions to the world, including:

    • Those active in government include Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor; John Ashcroft , US Attorney General; and Elizabeth Dole, US Senator.
    • Greeks have founded ESPN, Monster.com and a variety of other businesses.
    • Hollywood , Billboard 100, TV, book shelves, and stages are graced by many Greeks, including Ashton Kutcher, John Wayne, Dr. Seuss, Deanne Carter, Kevin Costner, Dixie Carter, Bob Barker, Brad Pitt, Kenny Chesney and Tom Selleck.
    • Major sports organizations benefit from Greek leadership, including Bobby Bowden, head coach of Florida State University; Eddie Sutton, Oklahoma State Head Basketball Coach; and Dominique Dawes, Olympic Gymnast, to name a few.

Every member has the potential to become a real leader by goal setting, delegating responsibilities, planning activities, solving problems, and making decisions.  You will also be provided many opportunities to learn, develop poise, initiative and judgment through campus and community events.  These skills will set you apart in the future and will help lead you to a rewarding and fulfilling life.  Nothing is beyond your dreams!

There is no better way to become involved in the total campus experience than through Greek life. Please click through our website and let us know if you have any questions.
